Pizza Toppings

Have you ever tried barbecue pizza, a popular topping that started in 1994? Around the world pizza toppings and preferences have become more creative and often represent the culture. Sardines, tuna, mackerel, salmon and onions are toppings served in Russia. In Japan, you will find pizza covered with squid. France enjoys their pizza topped with a bacon, onion and fresh cream combo. In Costa Rica, a popular topping for pizza is coconut. In India, they top their pizzas with tofu and minced mutton. Brazilians prefer green peas atop their pie, and in Austria shrimp and pineapple are a favorite. Saudi Arabia, only allows 100% beef to be used to topped pizza because they do not eat pork. Different pizza toppings can be important when playing online games with this topic.

Californians started eating healthy pizzas when Chez Panisse Cafe opened in 1980 and started selling organic pizzas. It is said that this is how the veggie pizza started; a popular version of American pizza among the health conscious and vegetarians alike.

Today you can order a variety of toppings for your pizza pie, interestingly, pepperoni is said to be the number one topping, sausage comes in second, and anchovies are the least favorite topping in America. Other topping that are commonly offered on menus include mushrooms, olives, green peppers, onions, broccoli, spinach, barbecued beef, chicken or pork. Traditional pies such as the Margherita are still in demand, but gaining popularity are five-cheese pies, white pizza (which has no tomato sauce), and cheeseless pizzas.

It is said that 62% Americans prefer meat toppings, and 38% prefer vegetarian toppings, with all the possible combinations available there is no doubt that new toppings will never cease. Pizza makers have and will continue to try new topping on their pies, including oysters, crayfish, venison, duck, Cajun shrimp, eggplant, and apples. New American pizzas will keep on emerging.
